Living Plant Museum

The Living Plant Museum is an exhibition showing a live collection of plant species across all categories of the plant classification system. This exhibition is an integral part of the teaching and learning processes in various courses within the Department, basic required courses of the Faculty of Science, and general education courses offered to students from different programs. It serves as a research venue for graduate studies and provides academic services to over 2,000 people annually from Chulalongkorn University. The museum also serves as a reference point, a recreational area, and a comprehensive source of botanical knowledge for students, researchers, and the general public interested in botany. Furthermore, it facilitates visits for educational purposes and training sessions on plant knowledge applicable to educational institutions, which is vital for foundational learning in botany. This exhibition is the first of its kind at the university level in Thailand.

The Living Plant Museum is divided into two sections

Evaporation Temperature Room

The first section consists of a temperature-controlled room for research related to plant cultivation technology, where environmental conditions must be continuously regulated, such as hydroponics or various forms of soilless culture. This section is not open to the public.

Live Plant collections

The second section includes the greenhouse and the areas surrounding it. It features an area of 504 square meters that presents information on plant diversity and evolution, including displays of endemic and rare plant species in Thailand, with a collection of no fewer than 200 species. The collection is divided into six exhibitions.

Tropical Rain Forest

This exhibition is housed within the greenhouse and covers an area of 84 square meters. It simulates a plant community near waterfalls and in areas with high humidity and moisture, showcasing a variety of plant species growing from the ground to climbing plants.

Succulent and Drought Tolerant Plants

Located in the greenhouse, this exhibition spans 52 square meters and simulates a plant community that requires minimal water for growth or has systems to store water in their stems for use during drought.

Pteridophytes

This exhibition, also within the greenhouse, occupies 26 square meters and simulates a community of diverse pteridophytes, maintaining appropriate humidity with misting throughout the day.

Aquatic Plants

Located outside the greenhouse, this exhibition covers 24 square meters, featuring various aquatic plants in cement ponds and decorative water pots.

Gymnosperms

This outdoor exhibition covers 128 square meters, located under the rain tree near the entrance of the garden, showcasing the diversity of gymnosperms found in Thailand and imported from other countries.

Flowering Plants

Surrounding the greenhouse, this outdoor exhibition spans 150 square meters and displays the evolution of various groups of flowering plants according to the PPG APG IV classification system.
