The Straits Times (Singapore) recently featured the Professor Kasin Suvatabandhu Herbarium, Department of Botany, Chulalongkorn University — highlighting its value for both scientific research and forensic investigations.
Herbarium serves as a repository of preserved plant specimens, functioning as an invaluable reference for biodiversity studies. Beyond its role as a historical scientific archive, the herbarium contributes to multiple fields of knowledge, including Pharmacology (medicinal and food plants), Ecology and Environmental science (invasive species research), and Forensics & law (plant evidence in criminal investigations).
Established in 1982, the Professor Kasin Suvatabandhu Herbarium (BCU) currently holds over 20,000 plant specimens, serving as one of the important natural resource databases of Thailand. Now the Department also offers plant specimen/voucher specimen preparation and identification services for those interested.
